First Monday of 2016: So Long, So Long
This morning, I completed my first Coursera course. I must tell you: I completed it because, well, I wanted to know if confetti really poured out your USB ports when you are done.
It does not.
But here I am, with a certificate very early on in the year, halfway through a brave new course in Ruby programming and another in some inbound-marketing-related thingamajig and I must say, I can almost permit myself to believe in the fruitfulness of the year.
An old client from Upwork hit me up, tentative, like, you know, ‘hey, Justin — been a minute. Happy new year.’ The naira might be weakening inside, but outside the dollar is delicious. Not being a short-sighted myopist (coinage mine, as is the annoying and hard-to-disregard tautology, sorry) here, but it is what it is.
And books? Hah. I have books to read, but I have read — again — a book by my most neurotic author — Justin Irabor’s his name — titled Watcher of the Gods. It’s not exactly a book if we’re being honest, and it could use a good pair of editorial pincers…
All in all- it’s off to a nice start. 2015 was good to me, but I suspect, wondiferous gentlemens, that 2016 might be better.
ToDoist has gingerly taken another place in my life. One of many abandoned personal organization apps, it is making a comeback this year to ensure that I do not stand people up. I’m considering creating a sort of public calendar for people on my social media timelines and other — as yet — unidentified circles to reach me and add appointments with me which I will now be obliged to respond to and execute upon.
Tidbit: the only reason I was on that stage for the Etisalate Flash Fiction Prize in 2015 was because a nice follower recommended that I go for it. Most things I seem to have achieved in life have been due to people persuading me. Basically — this year, if you find any opportunity you think I might be a good fit for, please holler. I will not let you down. (Likewise, I will be posting opportunities I feel people around me might be interested in. I am converting this blog to an e-UtilityBelt for the readers dem.)
About the T-Shirt Campaign
Gather ‘round, gentlemen and ladies!
As you (probably) remember, I announced last year that I would be giving out TheVunderkind™ t-shirts to people who subscribe(d) to my blog via email.
Ever since then I’ve received emails like ‘brus brus.’
‘Brus Brus.’
( >_>)
(<_< )
Haha. Kills me. Anyway. I have been looking for a good t-shirt designer, and I think I have found on. Two, actually. I will be trying out their merchandise and you, dear reader, will be the first guinea pigs of my experiment.
I will announce the January winners from my random blog raffle (completely random, I assure you. There is neither favoritism nor nepotism on thevunderkind.com.)
Congratulations, guys. You made it past the toughest parts of another Monday!
Tinkerer building while thinking.
